Explore the Pacific Ocean and lagoons as far as the eye can see on board a superb fishing vessel, discover desert islands and beaches of white sand, cliffs and coral reefs… Below the bows, in the turquoise-coloured water, lives an extraordinary diversity of marine fauna.

Sport fishing in New Caledonia is first and foremost fly-fishing

Sport fishing in New Caledonia is first and foremost fly-fishing in fairytale virgin landscapes, unspoiled and protected from industrial fishing. You can catch bonefish in the “flats” to the north of Grande Terre, the Loyalty Islands and the Isle of Pines; some specimens caught recently were more than a metre long!

Will you dare to measure yourselves with the tarpon of the Pacific?

And in the lagoon you may also come up against very challenging adversaries, milkfish or chanos chanos, fish which are particularly difficult to hook. You may measure your skills against an Elops almost 1.5 metres long, leaping out of the waves to shake off the fly, or a Pacific tarpon, and many other varieties.

Baracuda, red carpe, dog-toothed tuna...

On the slopes of the coral reefs, you may cast and catch a giant jack, known here as “baoum”. And then there are barracudas, red carp, and rocklings. And you may catch up with a dog-toothed tuna, some specimens of which grow to as much as 100 kg!

Finally, if you’re mad about fresh-water fishing, you can meet black bass in Yaté Lake, and carp and “doulles” in the rivers of Grande Terre…

Fishing organisations and societies in New Caledonia offer different types of break, circuits and safaris, in the 3 provinces.
